Dr. Stefan Fenchel

    Sustainability Project Manager, BMW AG

    Stefan Fenchel studied chemistry in Regensburg and earned a doctorate in materials science at the University of Erlangen in the field of nanosciences. After his postdoctoral research, he joined BMW Group in 2003 as part of the management team responsible for establishing the BMW Group plant in Leipzig, working in the paint shop. Following various management roles in vehicle assembly at the plant and training as a Lean Management expert, he assumed responsibility in 2013 as Head of the Department for Occupational Safety, Ergonomics, and Environmental Protection at the Leipzig site. Since 2019, he has been responsible for the strategic sustainability direction of the BMW Group Plant Leipzig. One objective of this strategic focus is a CO2-neutral, resilient energy supply for the plant at economically viable costs. Stefan Fenchel is 56 years old, happily married to a Canadian, and the father of eight children together.
