Dr. Jens Berger

Dr. Jens Berger holds a Ph.D. in physics and has been working at the BMW Group since the development of the first BMW i3. His work focuses on the charging and integration of electric vehicles into energy grids and markets, as well as the development of resulting business models. As part of the BLD research project, Dr. Berger successfully implemented energy market and grid integration via Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) using 20 BMW i3s that had been equipped for bidirectional charging. This project represented a significant milestone, as the insights gained formed the basis for the V2G series product developed by BMW and E.ON. Dr. Berger currently leads the BDL Next research project at BMW. The goal of this project is to enable the mass-market viability of bidirectional charging. This aims to establish electric vehicles in the future not only as a means of transportation but also as an integral part of modern energy systems.
